Terms of service.
Last updated:
Uideo is a free, hand-curated library of design conference talks. These terms are the rules for using it. They're written to be read, so please do.
Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and the independent operator of Uideo (“Uideo”, “we”, “us”) at uideo.net. By using Uideo you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Uideo.
The service
Uideo collects, rates and organises talks published by others. We don't host the videos: they play from YouTube and Vimeo. Uideo is free, has no paid plans and shows no ads. Ratings and selections are our editorial opinion.
Accounts
- You need an account only to like talks, keep lists and follow speakers or conferences.
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- Sign in with a Google account you control, and keep it secure. You're responsible for activity under your Uideo account.
- One person per account. Accounts created by bots or automated means aren't allowed.
Acceptable use
Don't use Uideo to:
- break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
- scrape, crawl or copy the catalogue in bulk, or overload the service, except through the public RSS feed and normal search-engine indexing;
- manipulate likes or ratings, for example with multiple accounts or scripts;
- probe, scan or attack the service, or get around its security; please report vulnerabilities to us instead;
- impersonate others or upload profile content that is unlawful, hateful or infringing.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Where reasonable, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
Content and ownership
- Talks belong to their speakers, conferences and publishers. Watching them is subject to YouTube's or Vimeo's terms. Uideo links to and embeds them using the tools those platforms provide and claims no ownership.
- Speaker and conference information such as names, roles, photos and descriptions comes from public sources and is shown to identify who gave a talk and where.
- Uideo itself, including its design, code, selections, ratings and written summaries, belongs to us. You may share links and quote small parts with attribution.
- What you add, such as your profile, stays yours. You give us permission to store and display it only as needed to run Uideo.
Copyright complaints
If you're a speaker, organiser or rights holder and want a talk, photo or description removed or corrected, email [email protected] with:
- the Uideo page address and what you want changed;
- the work concerned and how you're connected to it;
- your name and contact details;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised, and that your notice is accurate.
We act on valid notices promptly, usually by removing the item. To remove the video itself from YouTube or Vimeo, contact that platform.
Third-party services
Uideo relies on YouTube (terms), Vimeo (terms) and Google sign-in. Those services are run by others, under their own terms and privacy policies, and we aren't responsible for them. Links to other sites are provided for convenience.
Ending your account
You can stop using Uideo at any time. To delete your account and its data, email [email protected] from the account's address. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we shut Uideo down. If we shut down, we'll give account holders reasonable notice where we can.
Changes
Uideo is a living project. We may add, change or remove features. We may update these terms, and we'll change the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll announce them on the site at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using Uideo after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
Disclaimers
Uideo is provided “as is” and “as available”, free of charge. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We don't promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that a talk will remain available, or that descriptions and ratings are complete or accurate. Talks reflect the views of their speakers, not ours.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of Uideo. Because Uideo is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to €50 (or US$50).
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or intent, or any other liability that can't be limited by law. If you're a consumer in the EU or UK, you keep all rights your local consumer law gives you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the operator of Uideo is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring claims in its courts. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. Not enforcing a term right away doesn't waive it.
