Rhythm necklaces are circular representations of repeating or structural patterns. They've been applied in fields as varied as Crystallography, Radio Astronomy, Nuclear Physics, and Ethnomusicology. Using Euclidean geometry, computer scientist Godfried Toussaint found that many of the mathematical properties that make a musical rhythm enjoyable are found across cultures. It's also possible to influence how patterns are perceived with only minute changes to visual symmetry.
